Come to Sydney Harbour for the Audi Regatta Come to Sydney Harbour for the Audi Regatta

What do one unit of sydharb, 200+ yachts and 2000+ sailors give you? A whole lot of changing tack and utter confusion on Sydney Harbour we reckon.

AT not only loves sailing but also the weird and wonderful expressions it has added to our vocabulary. Changing tack is one of them, sydharb (a unit of volume equal to the amount of water in Sydney Harbour, approximately 500 gigalitres depending on the tide) another, Seemeilen Woche an even more outlandish – and rarely used – one (German for a nautical mile per week with one Seemeilen/ Woche equalling about 3 mm/s, said to be the nominal value for a snail’s pace) – just in case you were wondering.

But back to the reason for this article, the Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta which is set to take place on the weekend of the 7th- 8th March. This prestigious boating event is expected to light up the Harbour with over 250 boats and some highly competitive sailors all vying for the top prize: a brand new Audi luxury car

And if boats aren’t quite your cup of tea, never fear, this event offers plenty of entertainment for everyone. From fashion parades, live entertainment and beach parties on Saturday and Sunday to kid’s dinghy sailing and remote controlled model yachts- you’re guaranteed to find something that rocks your boat.

For sailing enthusiasts, rubbing shoulders with previous champions and familiar faces like Olympic Gold Medallists’ Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page might add to the thrill of watching some of our city’s famous and most glamorous Yachts. We’re sure there won’t be enough room to swing a cat when the event gets under way at the Middle Harbour Yacht Club at Mosman.
