Batemans Bay - The Australian Traveller Guide
For that real holiday feel, you can't go past Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast. During the holiday season the tourist destination is often overrun with holiday-goers sharing the sunny, beachside holiday dream. Rainforests, beaches, golf and fishing are among the activities on offer to keep the family entertained.
WHERE TO STAY
There is more than enough accommodation in Batemans bay, but if you’re feeling a bit crowded on the mainland, Clyde River Houseboats offer as much peace and quiet on the water you could ask for.
WHAT TO DO
There are loads of things to do in Batemans Bay. You can try your luck at surfing, or let the locals show you how it’s done at popular surfing beaches such as Surf Beach, Malua Bay, Broulee or Pink Rocks. On a more relaxed day, take a picnic at the Birdland Animal Park while getting close to over 50 different species of native Australian wildlife.
Driving for about an hour along the scenic route from Batemans Bay to Canberra you’ll get to the town of Braidwood. Check out the old buildings and unique arts and crafts made by the locals.
Jump on a dolphin cruise, play a round of mini golf or join a trail ride. If all else fails you can always grab a towel and sunscreen and head straight down to the water. Sprawl out and soak up the sunshine while the kids build sandcastles.
WHEN TO TRAVEL
Batemans Bay has long been the ‘it’ place for families during School Holidays. If you want a quiet, relaxing time in Batemans Bay, plan to stay either just before or a few weeks post holiday season. You’ll notice the difference.
TRANSPORT
Batemans Bay is a 3-4 hour drive from Sydney and 2 from Canberra. Most accommodation is within walking distance to shopping facilities and beaches.
