Wagga Wagga - The Australian Traveller Guide
Wagga Wagga - the town so nice they named it twice. Nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, it has earned its title as the ‘Garden City’ with manicured gardens and every-shade-of-green parklands. Taking place as the capital of the Riverina, the area boasts a strong agricultural industry and friendly locals.
WHERE TO STAY
There’s a bit of everything on offer in Wagga Wagga in terms of getting a good night’s sleep, from camping and caravans to self contained cottages.
Among them is the reasonably priced Comfort Inn Prince of Wales, located in the CBD and reviewed well by past visitors. Housed in a historical 1865 building, the inn still offers modern comforts such as spa rooms, pay TV, mini bars, room service, wireless broadband and breakfast any day of the week.
For something a bit more intimate, why not try Dunn’s B&B for a romantic country getaway with some good ol’ fashioned hospitality. It’s able to accommodate up to six guests and prices start at $130. In addition to your standard features, expect little extras like a complimentary homemade afternoon tea and vintage car rides.
Alternatively, there’s the Globe Apartments that are much more contemporary but just as charming. Think chic, think luxury; think prices start at $225 for couples.
WHAT TO DO
Full to the brim with attractions and activities, Wagga Wagga promises to have something for everyone with historic landmarks, art galleries, museums, wineries and wildlife.
To get the heart pumping enjoy the sites along The Wiradjuri Walking Track, a 30-kilometre route around the city. A shorter option is the Wollundry Loop and is suitable for people of all ages and is also a great way to discover local history and meet native wildlife.
In summer, Wagga Beach on the Murrumbidgee should also be on the to-do list. As a popular spot to go swimming, it’s equipped with electric barbeques, a serviced toilet block, tables and chairs.
But if sitting back and indulging in local produce is more your thing, try the wine and cheese sampling at Charles Sturt Winery or pack a picnic and head to the Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens.
During your stay, the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery is also worth a peak with several ever-changing exhibitions and a stand-alone gallery to showcase the National Art Glass Collection.

Smack-bang in the middle of Sydney and Melbourne, Wagga Wagga is only a five-hour drive from either city.
CountryLink trains and buses leave from the train station regularly.
