Everyone’s an expert photographer these days, thanks to the increasing popularity and quality of photos we can easily snap on our smartphones… or are we?
While smartphone photos are great in many ways – you can instantly upload your holiday pics for friends or family to admire online, for one thing – we can’t help but think they kind of take away the joy of thumbing through the family albums that now risk fading into oblivion. Somehow, those digital snaps floating around in cyberspace don’t quite hold the same magic as the printed and bound version, dog-eared from many a nostalgic flip-through.
So we say it’s time to resurrect the time-honoured tradition of the family holiday photo album this summer. Arm yourself with a simple digital SLR camera (so you can play around with the settings or just shoot automatic) and let the family take turns capturing their own favourite holiday moments.
If you don’t have a ‘resident family photographer’ to teach the basics to everyone else, try enrolling in a short course before your trip. When you get home, you’ll have hours of fun reliving the holiday as you compile the album – and a memento of those priceless memories.
