Australian Traveller loves helping new writers and photographers get a foot in the door of our challenging, exciting and ultimately rewarding industry, so welcome to the AT community! Here’s what to do next:

Submit a short blog-style piece no longer than 600 words each*. You can write about any destination or experience you like, as long as it’s in Australia. It could be about kayaking in the Katherine, a Byron Bay yoga retreat, shopping in Melbourne or driving across the continent. It could even be about airline food – whatever you like.

Style-wise, it could be an evocatively descriptive story about a region close to your heart, a humorous first-person column, a review of an annual event, a guidebook-style piece or a portrait of colourful locals – how you use those 600 words is entirely up to you.

We’ll choose our favourite entries each month to include on our e-newsletter, the AT Wire, and to upload to the website.
You can submit as many stories as you like but please send one story per email. If you have photos to accompany the piece, send as low-res attachments in the first instance. For consideration, submit your story to:

We look forward to seeing what you come up with. Happy travels!
