Australia has welcomed its first Wireless Power Pad, which recharges up to five devices at the same time and is compatible with more than 600 mobile gadgets.

Using a small sleeve, you just drop your device straight onto the conductive pad for instant charging. Brilliant.

Very handy, very small and discreet, we were able to charge an e-Book, a mobile phone and various other random items from the office without any problems.

We’ve had a unit in the office for a couple of weeks now, and there’s a lot to like about the convenience of simply plonking your iPhone down onto the surface of the charging pad and watching it soak up its juice.

There’s a slight bit of fiddling that you must go through initially, and that’s to do with the charging sleeve that must be fitted to your iPhone first. It’s a pretty neat system, but it does mean that you’re forced to use that sleeve as your “dropping/bouncing protection”, rather than any of your preferred options (eg, the wrap-around leather variety et al). But that’s not such a major drawback – even though you’ll then be forced to keep up a steady supply of screen protectors if you want to keep your iPhone in top condition.

We also tested the wireless power disc with the eight interchangeable tips, and think these are better than the iPhone sleeve function. Very handy, very small and discreet, we were able to charge an e-Book, a mobile phone and various other random items from the office without any problems.

On the whole this is a clever piece of technology that also looks pretty cool. And that’s a thumbs up in anyone’s books.
