Greyhound goes green

Next time you travel with Greyhound, you can also make a difference in helping to save the environment.

First it was plane companies like Jetstar and Virgin Blue giving their customers the option to travel and help offset carbon emissions. Now, Australia’s only coach company, Greyhound, is following suit and is joining in with the green campaign.

Greyhound has teamed up with Cleaner Climate, a global carbon solutions company, to encourage travellers to go green when booking their next coach trip. For just an extra dollar per booking, Greyhound and Cleaner Climate are giving customers the opportunity to reduce the impact of carbon emissions.

An analysis conducted by Cleaner Climate shows that if one in three Greyhound Australia customers choose to travel green, more than 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent can be offset annually through carbon reduction projects.

The money raised through the dollar carbon offset scheme will be invested in Cleaner Climate’s international renewable energy and energy efficiency projects – including trying to establish a Carbon Action Plan designed to help increase energy efficiency and technological improvements throughout Greyhound’s offices and terminals.

“Both customers and employees are now demanding products and services that are more socially and environmentally friendly and Greyhound Australia is setting a new agenda for long-term change,” says Ben Muir, managing director of Cleaner Climate.

Customers who are willing to lend a helping in hand in going green will have the opportunity to enter a draw sponsored by one of Australia’s leading solar companies, Energy Matters, to win one of two 1 kilowatt solar panel systems valued at $12,000 each.
