Two votes. That’s all that separated this year’s winning wine region – the tranquil Hunter Valley – from traditional category champ, WA’s Margaret River. But we’re happy to see it so: the Hunter really is one of our country’s most beautiful corners, filled with rolling vineyards large and small and framed, postcard-like, by the jagged edges of the distant Brokenback Range.
Drive around the front of the valley (via Pokolbin) to sample the results of some of Australia’s most successful vineyards, or meander around the back (via Wollombi) to uncover secrets with character by the vat-load.
