Australian Traveller Magazine’s 100 Great Australian Holiday Homes If you fancy escaping the city for a blast of fresh air and a ramble in the countryside, the Gloucester Art House, on the fringes of the quiet rural township of Gloucester in northern NSW, is a good bet. Adjacent to parkland, with a river flowing through the backyard and with the Barrington Tops wilderness area nearby, the Art House is the perfect spot for anyone who’s been working too hard or burning the candle at both ends. It offers nothing but good, clean, wholesome country living, with a pint in a local Gloucester pub being a slightly wilder entertainment option for those who tire of walking, trout fishing, sleeping and listening to the sound of singing frogs.

The Art House owes it name to its artist owner, and has beautiful wall hangings in every room, plus its own studio for those who fancy themselves as a dab hand with a paintbrush and palette. It has two large bedrooms plus an extra loft room to sleep an extra two.

Comfortable, cosy and affordable; we love it.
