The architects responsible for the restoration of QT Sydney’s building have won a major industry award for their work.

Woodhead (project architect) and Graham Brooks and Associates (heritage architect) received the ‘Francis Greenway Restoration Award’ from the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architect’s for their overall restoration work on the Gowings and State Theatre buildings.

Group managing director of QT Hotels & Resorts, David Seargeant, said: “The gothic features of the Palazzo-style Gowings Building, originally designed by renowned architect Crawford H Mackellar, have been thoughtfully returned to their former glory.”

The whole process took around three years from the planning stage through to completion to ‘meld’ and restore the two CBD buildings, which both opened their doors for the first time in 1929.
