According to the report in the Sydney Morning Herald of 24 October 1930, I think you’ll fine that the man who fell from the bridge was Victor Kelly not Vincent Kelly. There is nothing in the report about him dropping his tool belt in the water to break his fall. He was a boiler maker and he fractured his ribs when he hit the water – feet first, which broke the surface. He was not quite straight when he hit and if he had been he speculated that he may have had no injuries at all.

I was told my dad was one of the 1400 men who help build the Sydney Harbour Bridge he worked at the time for Dorman Long engineering in Middlesburg . I was only fifteen when he died so it wasn’t mentioned to me only in the last couple of years I was told this from some relatives who trace me on ancestry .com. I was trying to find out if his name with the others is on a plaque on the bridge. I lived in Australia for a few years twice been there with my dad’s job.

While of Irish descent, Vincent Kelly was an Australian, at least third generation. He lived in Sydney.
