Sydney (locally) and Fiji (internationally) are the most popular places for frequent flyers to redeem their points, according to new figures from Qantas.
While tech gadgets and foodie-related gizmos are increasingly popular, travel is still the redemption of choice, based on sheer number of points redeemed.
Melbourne and Brisbane are second and third on the domestic list while Auckland and Los Angeles followed Fiji’s Nadi airport in foreign destinations, possibly because of their proximity to Australia.
Qantas Frequent Flyer CEO Lesley Grant said: “Flights remain at the core of what people choose to spend their points on, but as the number of program partners grow we’re finding more and more people choosing non-flight options,” said Ms Grant.
“It’s about people treating themselves with things they may not buy otherwise.”
Lower-points items like department store and iTunes gift cards headed the most redeemed (in number) while the top gadgets (in order): Bose noise-cancelling headphones, iPad mini, Go Pro camera, De’Longhi Nespresso Pixie and KitchenAid Artisan mixer.
