Taronga Zoo in Sydney has welcomed the arrival of eight Tasmanian Devil joeys this year.
The program by Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoo to increase the Tasmanian Devils population has produced eight joeys this year. Three males and one female born to mother Martha as part of the zoo’s breeding success are now six months old and will receive general health checks and paternity tests in the hopes of a different sire from the previous year to maintain a diverse bloodline. The species are endangered in the wild, making breeding in captivity integral to the survival of the species.
