“The further north, the friendlier the locals”, wrote one reader in explaining their Cairns nomination, and we reckon there just might be some wisdom in that. Like the rest of FNQ, the charm of Cairns follows a very precise recipe: one part XXXX Gold, two parts sunshine and a generous serve of slow walking on all footpaths (it’s practically the law here).
Just make sure you practise the local language before you get there: it’s not ‘hello’, it’s ow-ya-garn. Yes, you’re definitely not in St Kilda anymore.
