Australian Traveller’s first-ever Readers’ Choice Awards for 2011; results for Best Luxury Hotel in Australia. THE WINNER:

PALAZZO VERSACE
Glitzy, glam, with an over-the-top clash of pattern and colour: that’s how some may think of Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast. But not our readers – oh no! You love the OTT luxury of it all. There’s nothing minimalist about this hotel – Versace’s wildly decorative Italian influence is on everything from the upholstery and carpets to the crockery. You love “the sheer luxury and great service” and “its sheer decadence”. One reader couldn’t praise the live floral displays in the lobby highly enough, while another practical reader said it’s all about the location:
“It has a man-made beach for the kids and a real beach across the road.” Read our review of one of PV’s restaurants on page 48.
