Australian Traveller Magazine’s 100 Great Australian Holiday Homes
In 2005, when Melburnians Debbie and Paul Wybrow began searching for a spot to build their dream holiday house, there were only two real deal-breakers: it had to be absolute waterfront, and it had to be on an island. Those modest dreams were realised when they visited Macleay Island, just west of North Stradbroke Island in Moreton Bay, and were absolutely bowled over by the views.

They bought their plot of land, sought advice from a local architect on prevailing winds and the perfect angles for sunlight, and built Sunset Waters. And to AT, it represents everything wonderful about Australian holiday homes – it’s pretty, it’s affordable, it takes superb advantage of its location, and it’s the only one on the island with a private, purpose-built timber stairway directly down to the beach.

Perfect for a peaceful escape, if you ever feel you do need a bit of help on the local area, Elaine, your friendly neighbour, also doubles as housekeeper!
