The largest offshore yachting regatta in Australia, Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, turns 30 years old when it sets sail on August 17.

Of course the sailing takes centrestage but a big part of the event is the glamour: fine food, fashion shows, quaffing champagne and mingling celebrities.

The Charles-Heidsieck Champagne Lunch makes its race-week debut this year, a ‘Hampton’s’ dress-themed lunch with menu prepared by qualia’s executive chef Alastair Waddell.

Back on the water, more than 135 yachts have registered and entry is still open for yachts from cruising through to racing class.

The pick of the fashion shows this year is the Collette Dinnigan Resort Show and Cocktail Party, a rare step away from the runways of Paris for the designer.

Matt Moran, Kylie Kwong and Shannon Bennett (all Audi ambassadors) will be among many others presenting foodie performances during the week-long event.

This year’s race week also marks the a decade of the Oatley family’s custodianship of Hamilton Island.
