The family-friendly simple life of Palm Cove, Tropical North Queensland, number #98 on Australian Traveller’s ‘100 amazing places you haven’t been to yet’Nominated by: Tracey Spicer, television presenter.

There’s a special spot at the southern end of Palm Cove in Tropical North Queensland, that Tracey Spicer believes is perfect for families.

“The ancient melaleuca alternifolia (tea trees) that line the shore were traditionally a source of bush medicine for the local indigenous people, but they’re also ideal for kids to climb,” she says.

If you’re not tired after exploring, “you can hire bikes to ride around the wetlands, walk to the delightfully old-fashioned Cairns Tropical Zoo or cool off in the calm waters off the cove,” she adds.

“Truly, every time I go there, I feel a sense of peace. Watching the sun rising over turquoise waters is simply priceless.”
