Check out the best B&Bs in Victoria.
Set among two acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in Marysville, Delderfield B&B is evidence that the region is back on its feet after the devastating 2009 bushfires. Two studio-style cottages are set well apart from each other for maximum privacy and they are set up with romantic getaways in mind – each has a king-size bed, double spa, wood fire and private verandah looking out to the evocatively named Mystic Mountains.
SOMETHING SPECIAL: This is the only five-star-rated B&B in the region, and one of only 10 in the state. Its English country-style gardens brim with flowers and exotic trees, and guests are encouraged to pick herbs and berries.
HOW MUCH? $340 per room per night on weekends; $285 midweek. Package rates and multiple-night discounts available.
WHILE YOU’RE HERE: Visit the Yarra Valley wine region; drive the scenic loop road from Marysville through Warburton and Healesville; go cross-country skiing at Lake Mountain.

GLEN ISLA HOUSE
Six classic guest rooms are available in the historically sensitive yet modern-build retreat on the grounds of Glen Isla Historic Homestead, a beautiful estate located on Phillip Island. Each room has individual decoration; for example, there’s a Gold Room, French Room and Oriental Room. You can tell it’s grand because Molton Brown products feature in all guest bathrooms and no children under the age of 12 are allowed. Breakfast is served daily, silver-service style, in the formal dining room, and features fresh local produce.
SOMETHING SPECIAL: For those who want to experience the true history of the estate, there is one more B&B-style room – the Anderson Suite, which is an original cottage dating from 1870. It has a log fire, private verandah and ensuite.
HOW MUCH? Classic rooms from $285 per room per night; Anderson Suite from $425 per night.
WHILE YOU’RE HERE: Visit the little penguins; take a tour of the Phillip Island Motor Racing Circuit; visit Churchill Island Heritage Farm, which dates back to the 1850s.

Seven acres of landscaped gardens surround this delightful limestone manor in Central Gippsland. Summer activities include swimming and tennis, but we reckon you should come in winter to soak up the charming ambience. There are four suites available, each with antique furnishings. The Windsor Room has a traditional English feel and an open fireplace, while the Marble Room is named for its enormous black-marble-walled bathroom, complete with freestanding tub.
SOMETHING SPECIAL: Montfort Manor was the winner of the 2010 Victorian Tourism Award for Hosted Accommodation. Join your hosts in the living room for a complimentary glass of port or spend some quiet time in the guest library.
HOW MUCH? The Marble Room is $330 per night full rate, while the most affordable room is the Napoleon Room at $260 per night full rate. Substantial discounts are often available when booking online.
WHILE YOU’RE HERE: Sample the Central Gippsland wineries; take a day’s winter stroll along Ninety Mile Beach; explore the Gippsland Lakes and take a leisurely drive through dairy country.
