It’s worth taking a roadtrip to Lucindale’s (Limestone Coast) Art in the Sticks, a budding “art Woodstock”; number 41 on Australian Traveller’s ‘100 amazing places you haven’t been to yet‘. Nominated by: Penny Rafferty, CEO of Luxury Lodges Australia.

The Limestone Coast and all its treasures aren’t quite at arm’s length from Adelaide or Melbourne, says Penny Rafferty, “but Art in the Sticks is your reason to go.”

The October long weekend festival is held on a “beautiful” organic cattle farm, Cluain, and showcases the work of artists, amateur and elite, in billets that house shearers during shearing season.

Bonfires, long-table lunches and local produce are also on offer; this year artists will include painters, an artisan furniture maker, photographer, jeweller, a sculptor and an electrician moonlighting as a milliner.

“It’s a budding little version of an art Woodstock,” says Rafferty.
