McLaren Vale wine region is not a secret any more but we’ve found one place you probably haven’t been to yet: Woodstock Wine Estate, number 18 on Australian Traveller’s ‘100 amazing places you haven’t been to yet‘. Nominated by: Christine Anu, singer.
The drive through McLaren Vale, from Adelaide to Victor Harbour isn’t much of a secret – but Christine Anu reckons she’s uncovered one along the way.
“The entire journey through wine country is just beautiful, but my favourite stop would absolutely have to be Woodstock Wine Estate,” she asserts.
“The nosh is fabulous – great wood-fired pizza on Friday nights, and live music – but there’s also a wildlife sanctuary attached. It’s a very special place.”
Towering ancient gum trees and tranquil native gardens provide the perfect setting for an overnight stay (especially if you’ve indulged in one too many McLaren Vale reds); happily the winery has a sweet little log cabin for hire, complete with fireplace and grazing ’roos, just for that purpose (from $230 per night).
