We admit, we were surprised to see you vote Saffire the winner of this category – not because it doesn’t deserve another award to add to its swag of accolades, but because, as a luxury lodge, it could be classified as either a hotel or resort. But you said it was the former, and with a boundless array of facilities and experiences, from day spa treatments and guided walks to cooking demonstrations and private oyster shucking, it’s certainly a luxe hotel with a difference – a “million-dollar view, and billion-dollar experience”, according to one reader. The designer interior and world-class service also received plenty of praise, with one respondent saying “you are treated like you are the only guest there”. Another reminisced that is was “an absolute dream come true. We soaked up that view on walks, by the wood fire, even during a degustation dinner, which was probably the best (and most romantic) meal I’ll ever have”. Definitions aside, Saffire seems to have mastered a winning combination.
Sydney’s golden girl of hotels, Park Hyatt, has again been voted a finalist for its “glamorous harbour views with a luxurious fit out”, closely followed by last year’s winner, Crown Towers Melbourne. Finalist regular Shangri-La Sydney came in fourth place, while glitzy 2011 winner, Palazzo Versace, continues to prove that sometimes more is, well, more.
