Tasmania’s affordable beach accommodation – backpackers hostel

Where is it?

On Tasmania’s central east coast, two-hours’ drive north of Hobart. Bicheno Backpackers Hostel is in the centre of town within walking distance of shops, restaurants and 500 metres from Waubs Beach, 1.5 kilometres to the larger Surf Beach. The town is surrounded by Douglas Apsley National Park, while Freycinet National Park (featuring Wineglass Bay) is a 30-minute drive – popular with hiking and biking enthusiasts.

What’s it like?

The accommodation comprises two buildings: one self-contained 28-bed dormitory; the other is a self-contained four-bedroom house with one room boasting ocean views and private balcony. There is a free barbecue and outdoor entertainment area, and bike and kayak hire.
