It appears we’re no longer looking to chase the sun in Queensland (last year’s winner) but would rather cosy up in Melbourne. Perhaps it’s because the city is an old-hand at drizzly days, that it has mastered the art of cool-climate fun.
With an array of art exhibitions, theatre performances and music gigs, to cosy pubs and the AFL, Melbourne winters are far from hibernation season.

Runner-up Broome was voted for its sunny weather, followed by Hobart, proving a winter haven with travellers for its “great dining”, “galleries and museums such as MONA” and “views of snow-capped peaks”. In fourth place was Cairns – an eternal favourite with its “subtropical rainforest and reef”, as well as ski-bunny heaven, Thredbo.

I think winter is one of the best times of the year in Melbourne. It just seems to come to life more than in any other season.
