Australian Traveller Magazine’s 100 Great Australian Holiday Homes
This beautiful renovated three-bedroom Victorian home is so well suited to the Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale area. It’s a perfect blend of mod-cons and comfortable fittings, coupled with gorgeous antiques specific to the post-Georgian, pre-Edwardian period of the late 1800s, early 1900s. And while some may find it difficult to reconcile plasma screen TVs and spa baths with ornate wrought-iron bedsteads and carved timber furnishings, it’s a nod to latter-day luxuries you may just have to put up with.

The name “Abaleen” means “of whales”, and there’s certainly a lot whale-watching to be done here: you’re only a couple of streets set back from the Bass Strait, looking directly out towards Point Nepean (next stop, Tasmania). A timeless getaway to seaside area rich in history.

Details // Hobson St, Queenscliff, Vic. From $695 for a two-night stay for 2-7 people., (03) 5258 1640.
