Have you taken your kids to the zoo before and wished there were more interactive things for them to do than just seeing animals behind a fence? Well, now is the time to take your little ones to Victoria to enjoy a zoo experience of a different kind. By Anna Hager
Werribee Open Range Zoo in Victoria is now offering a fantastic activity day for children under five every Tuesday of the year. And, this specially designed program will no doubt give the little ones an extra special experience at the zoo.
The best thing about this new program is that two out of three Toddler Tuesday activities are already included in the general admission price, which is free for children four years old and under.
Apart from these new fantastic activities for toddlers, there’s also plenty of other stuff to see and do for young and old at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
The two free activities are a Junior Safari and a Village Dance Party – which both sound like a lot of fun. So why not join a bunch of excited kids and their families at the Village Dance Party? This activity is actually held all week, Monday to Friday from 10am – 2pm at the zoo’s interactive musical dance theatre. Werribee Open Range Zoo says that kids are encouraged to play bongos, wiggle hips, stamp feet and “call animals to water”.
The Junior Safari is a fun-filled 35-minute bus tour for children, and they can bring Mum and Dad as well. There will be puppets, music and of course, as we are at the zoo, lots of animal action.
The third activity, which is called Mini Zoo Keepers, costs $40 (1 adult and 1 child) and for this one, every child has to be accompanied by an adult. This adventure takes tots on a 90-minute explorer tour of the zoo. They’ll be able to encounter meerkats, frogs, lizards, snakes and possums face to face. But the highlight is definitely the feeding of the zoo’s beautiful and friendly giraffe, which is also part of this behind-the scenes experience.
Zoo director Sally Lewis says this new activity makes the zoo one of the most exciting destinations for pre-school children. “We know that children and their parents will absolutely love these new experiences,” she says.
Apart from these new fantastic activities for toddlers, there’s also plenty of other stuff to see and do for young and old at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Some of the other activities offered include an overnight Slumber Safari, Tall Order Giraffe Encounters, the Rip Roaring Feed with a pride of lions, and the exciting Rhinos revealed behind the scenes encounter.
