This is one wave where you can honestly be fearless of sharks. Wave Rock is a unique rock formation moulded and sculptured by the ruthless hands of time and the elements.

Now, at 15m high and 110m long, it’s artistically detailed down to colour variations created from spring water trickling down, washing away and re-depositing minerals, darkening and staining the rock.

Walk a surfer’s pipe dream beneath the wave, its curving wall and smooth rounded overhang eternally about to crash. Gracing the north face of a larger erosional remnant named Hyden rock, Wave Rock is surrounded by varied bushland with smaller granite “breakers”. You can also climb through the jaws of the Hippo’s Yawn, another distinctively shaped formation, or simply frolic among ancient rock plants like the she-oaks and lichen carpets.

Did you know? // In 1960, some crystals from Hyden Rock were dated as being 2.7 billion yearsold, among the oldest in Australia, although Wave Rock is no older than 500 million years.
