Tucked away amongst the vines in Margaret River is this quiet achiever, loved for its “charming balance between traditional and adorable”.

Nudging Glass on Glasshouse in Queensland’s Glasshouse Mountains out of top spot, Margaret River Guest House is set in a 1920s convent, and claims to be the region’s first B&B. There are six guest rooms with private ensuites (plus fluffy towels and aromatic toiletries, no less), modern conveniences and a great breakfast spread. See margaretriverguesthouse.com.au

In the heart of Broome is runner-up Broome Town B&B, voted for its “fabulous rooms, great food and friendly owners”. After taking out the title for the past two years, Glass On Glasshouse is still a favourite amongst readers, while the Lake House in Daylesford (another Luxury Lodge, interestingly), received its share of votes for its “idyllic surrounds”, “boutique accommodation and sumptuous food with a European flair”. Speaking of European influences, finalist Villa Cavour proved a slice of Tuscan heaven in Hervey Bay, with “amazing Italian food and wine” and a cracking cooking school too. The Kilns in Bright was a favourite for its “special fit-out with complete peace and privacy”, as was Clarence River B&B outside of Grafton, famed for its service and location.

Lastminute.com.au doesn’t just offer hotels – you can book B&Bs, like Margaret River Guest House, right up until the very last, ah, minute.
