For the first time in Readers’ Choice Awards history, the Kimberley beat the Whitsundays to the finish line by an incredibly slim 13 votes.

Situated in Western Australia’s far north-west corner, The Kimberley is famed for its rugged beauty and untouched landscapes, where several operators offer bucket-list cruising experiences. In particular, True North Luxury Adventure Cruises, Orion Expeditions and The Great Escape Charter Company appeared repeatedly in your responses.

There was an obvious trend that united each operator in your comments – the quality of the vessel, the attentiveness of staff, and the spectacle of the landscape. One reader, writing of their time onboard True North, said “it was an incredible destination with great food and service.” Another commented that The Great Escape Charter Company, “was best experience ever and staff went out of their way”. But maybe this reader, who travelled with Orion, summed it up best: “all the luxury you could want in some of the best scenery in Australia”. See westernaustralia.com

Finalists

The winner for the past two years, Bareboating in the Whitsundays was pipped at the post to claim second place, while Sydney Harbour cruises was again voted for its views of Australia’s best-known harbour. Tasmania received a bounty of votes for cruises around Bruny Island and along the Gordon River, and the Great Barrier Reef snuck in to the finals for the “awesome snorkelling”.
