Barn Hill Beach Side Station Stay in the Kimberley is part outback, part beach break, part cattle station, number 13 on Australian Traveller’s ‘100 amazing places you haven’t been to yet‘, it was nominated by photographer Adam Williams.

Where can you find a cattle station overlooking the Indian Ocean? Or beachside accommodation technically in the outback? Only in the Kimberley.

“About 130 kilometres south of Broome, on the north-western coastline of WA is Barn Hill Beach Side Station Stay, which sits on top of an escarpment, so that almost every camp site has an uninterrupted view of the ocean,” says Adam Williams.

Play outback lawn bowls, go fishing, enjoy the famous home-cooked roast on a Sunday (“it’s a blast”), explore the sandstone pinnacles, play bingo, potter around the rockpools and shower under the stars.

The camp has powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites from $32 a night, plus ‘chalets’ from $100 a night. To reach this far, the last 10 kilometres of the journey is by 4WD access only – but that’s what makes this place extra special, you’re sharing with only those who are of likemind.
