Taking out the title for the second time, The Kimberley has proven to be Australia’s top destination for a thrill-seeking getaway.
We loved your tales of hiking through the Bungle Bungles, visiting ancient rock art sites and cooling off in fresh billabongs; of riding camels along Broome’s Cable Beach, four-wheel-driving along the Gibb River Road and flying in a seaplane above the Horizontal Falls. There were tales of barramundi fishing and helifishing, as well as passing “saltwater crocs, sharks and fish as big as Volkswagens” onboard a fishing tour at Kimberley Coastal Camp. Actually, Kimberley Coastal Camp accounted for a large portion of votes, not only for the fishing, but guided bush walks, rock art tours, and the journey to get there (a light plane and a helicopter flight).

Tasmania was voted for its hikes on Flinders Island, the Overland Track and Bay of Fires. Next was Tropical North Queensland for its 4WD routes like Cairns to Cape York, followed by the Red Centre, for guided hikes around Uluru, Larapinta Trail and The Olgas. Finally, the Top End for guided 4WD safaris through Kakadu National Park.
