  • The Travelodge Southbank is ridiculous value in the heart of the action of South Bank

Everything you need to know about the Travelodge brand in Australia. From the staff at Australian Traveller magazine.

Travelodge is chain of budget hotels located in Australia’s major cities. Whilst the owners may not like us referring to the chain as “cheap and cheerful”, it is probably the best way of describing it.
With a Travelodge hotel you are paying for a basic room and not a lot else. That said, the properties are, clean, convenient and well maintained. If we at Australian Traveller have a business trip to Melbourne or Sydney, it’s often a Travelodge that we stay in. The rooms suit us. They won’t offer us a romance package with some complimentary champagne on arrival. There not much chance of getting chocolates on the pillow either.
What you will get is moderately sized room with a desk and all the basics that you will need. Breakfast will be available in the morning and expect some limited room service.
The big plus for Travelodge hotels is that they are usually located in a central location. In most cases anything you want to do in that city will only be a short walk or sub $10 taxi fare to pretty much wherever you need to be.

2011 READERS' CHOICE AWARDS: BEST AFFORDABLE HOTEL BRAND

Best-Affordable-Hotel-gallery-1

Australian Traveller's first-ever Readers' Choice Awards for 2011; results for Best Affotdable Hotel Brand in Australia. THE WINNER: NOVOTEL This global hotel brand is part of the Accor Hotels stable. Novotel has 400 hotels and resorts in 58 countries, but the ones our readers love the most are Novotel Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast, Novotel Palm Cove, Novotel Brisbane and Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour. While the AT team would consider some of these properties more mid-range than affordable (most are over $200 a night), it seems our readership isn’t too badly off, even when they’re on a budget. But...

AFFORDABLE SUMMER HOLIDAYS: MELBOURNE

The Travelodge Southbank is ridiculous value in the heart of the action of South Bank

AT's guide to the best cheap accommodation for summer and Christmas holidays Melbourne Why do we rate it? Melbourne really knows how to celebrate summer. We rate its food, wine and frivolity. Where is it? It may be at the bottom of the map, but it’s got top spot as Australia’s cultural capital. Where to stay We recommend the Pensione Melbourne for a night right in the centre of town – as long as you don’t intend spending much time there. The rooms are clean, modern and minimalist (read bare and small). But if shopping and nights out are on...
