Prepare to get square eyes at this competition-cum-festival, showcasing the top 100 short film entries, with awards such as Best Short Film, Best Director and Best Animation. It also features a selection of international short films, as well as winning entries in SoundKILDA – an Australian music video competition.
ART MELBOURNE 2012

Save your pretty pennies for Melbourne’s affordable art fair, which attracts more than 14,000 visitors each year. With an extensive range of works from local and international exhibitors, the show is one of the largest annual art fairs in Oz. There will also be educational talks, printmaking demonstrations, live entertainment and a range of galleries and artists on site. Royal Exhibition Centre, Carlton.
RIP CURL PRO SURF & MUSIC FESTIVAL
April 3-15
The world’s top surfers (and a Victorian wildcard) will gather on Bells Beach in Torquay, along the Great Ocean Road, for one of the world’s most prestigious surfing competitions. Back on land, there will be more entertainment available for spectators, with plenty of parties and live music.
APOLLO BAY MUSIC FESTIVAL
April 20-22
Now in its 20th year, this three-day program of local, national and international acts covers a spectrum of music genres including jazz, blues, roots, classical, pop-rock and country. Music aside, the festival also includes literary events, workshops, street performance, and children’s theatre.
FALLS CREEK EASTER FESTIVAL
April 6-9
Victoria’s High Country will come alive for this annual family-friendly fest. There will be activities to keep both youngsters (and big kids at heart) entertained, with a giant Easter egg hunt, big Easter breakfast and the Eggstra-ordinary Egg Toss. There will also be an outdoor cinema, sunset tours, summit chairlift rides and Easter ski sales on offer.
