Crown Hotels is redefining what it means to be called ‘luxury’ accommodation in Australia. Their three flagship properties – the 481-room Crown Towers Melbourne, the 500-room Crown Towers Perth and 349-room Crown Towers Sydney – have set new standards, prioritising elegance over extravagance, and offering a level of exclusivity and prestige not experienced before by the Australian market.
And it’s not just about an exquisite hotel experience. A key part of Crown’s impact has been designing a fully integrated destination worthy of an independent visit, complete with dining precincts, high-end shopping, luxury spas and leisure facilities.
Each Crown property has had a transformational experience on the cities in which they were built. With prominent positions on the major waterways of Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, Crown has been a cultural and geographic force for change over the last four decades.
Construction of the Crown property on Burswood Island in Perth saw a former cement works and rubbish tip reborn as a spectacular leisure destination. Crown Towers Perth joined the complex in 2016, and today the area includes a park and heritage art trail.
Similarly, in the 1990s, Crown Melbourne was a key part of Southbank’s urban renewal plan, which saw the industrial area significantly gentrified. This contributed to the establishment of a strong arts and culture precinct.
The latest addition, Crown Sydney, opened in 2020, and had an instant impact on the city. Dominating the skyline, it’s the architectural anchor for the newly built Barangaroo precinct on Sydney Harbour.
Crown has set a new benchmark for Australian hotels by elevating the accommodation offerings in each city and creating a personal sanctuary for guests: think city views, spacious rooms and magnificent fittings. And the exclusive Crown Villas completely reimagines a bespoke luxury hotel stay.
In Sydney, private check-ins and elevators, as well as 24-hour butler service, ensure a sense of exclusivity remains at the forefront of the Crown experience. Designed by New York-based interior architect Meyer Davis, the villas all have a separate living and dining area, with an enclosed bedroom space. They run from one bedroom right up to the two-level Presidential Villa that sleeps 10 and includes an office, massage suite and butler’s quarters.
In Melbourne, the private villas – designed by Bates Smart – showcase a collection of over $1 million worth of art, representing over 20 artists.
At Crown Towers Perth, guests are spoiled for choice; as well as private villas, there are two 1400-square-metre mansions. They each offer a gated entrance, private driveway, pool, spa and entertaining area, and are the pinnacle of privilege and luxury in Australian hospitality.
From the Frette linen on the king-size beds to fresh flowers in the private Crystal Club, the touches that separate Crown from the competition are not just attention to detail and an uncompromising approach to a quality hotel experience. It’s also the pedigree of service offered to guests.
At Crown, service is both understated and intuitive, with staff able to anticipate guests’ needs, provide world-class hospitality and facilitate a seamless stay.
The commitment to a higher standard of service is reflected in the accolades each hotel has been awarded. In 2023, Crown Towers Melbourne and Perth were both recipients of the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating, and Crown Sydney Spa made its Forbes debut as the only Australian spa to be lauded with five stars. To receive this world-class rating, which is considered the gold standard for luxury, hotels must adhere to over 900 stringent guidelines, 75 per cent of which are related to service delivery.
But the Crown isn’t just a place to stay, as gastronomy remains an important tenet of any visit to the hotels. World-renowned dining institutions like Nobu and Silks are here, while homegrown dining icon Guillaume Brahimi’s Bistro Guillaume has satellite restaurants in Melbourne and Perth. In Sydney, new concepts like Oncore, by three-Michelin Star chef Clare Smyth, are bringing an elevated level of fine dining to the harbour city.
Each Crown Towers hotel boasts its own dining precinct of more than a dozen restaurants, buffets, bars and hot spots, with a curated network of casual and semi-formal options offering international cuisines. In Melbourne, feast on modern Thai with a twist at Ging Thai; try the exceptional Italian at Modo Mio in Perth; and experience the sensory-driven open kitchen at Sydney’s Woodcut.
Of course, no hotel experience would be complete without the choice and indulgence of the classic breakfast buffet. At Crown Towers Sydney, nine open kitchen stations at Epicurean deliver what many have labelled the best buffet in the city – complete with not one, but two, chocolate fountains.
While the rooms offer sanctuary, Crown Spas specialise in renewal. In addition to spa treatments, each of the three award-winning Crown Spas offer a multi-layered approach to wellness, beauty, fitness and health. Guests have the option to enhance their treatment by booking a private wellness suite with steam bath and shower, or they can enjoy the facilities before commencing treatment.
