Falls Creek is the prmeier palce to ski in Victoria and Australia

Rundown: Would never get the Kasey Chambers serenade for not being pretty enough. Aesthetically pleasing and choc-full of good restaurants and cafes, Falls fares well with families and the relaxed and comfortable set.

New in ’05: Mainly hotel and accommodation developments.

The Good: Dining, on-mountain cruising.

The Not So Good: Not much for the advanced. Resort entry and parking is stiff and while good for parents with older kids it is either expensive or inconvenient to get around with little ’uns.

$ If you’re hunting for something cheaper and at short notice you can pretty much rule out staying on the mountain. Do the ring around at Mt Beauty (about 30kms away).

$$ Feathertop Alpine Lodge: A handy spot, plus Mo’s is one of the better alpine restaurants and bars around. About $300 a double per night with breakfast.

$$$ Attunga Lodge: Offers serviced hotels and self-contained apartments. Flexibility of arrival and departure times often makes it a viable late alternative. A deluxe spa room costs about $270 per person per night.
