Fireplaces, a hatted restaurant, loveseats and valley views, a few reasons why Spicers Peak Lodge in the Scenic Rim is number 52 on Australian Traveller’s ‘100 amazing places you haven’t been to yet‘. Nominated by: Kieren Perkins OAM, ex-Olympian and sports commentator.

This is absolutely one of Australia’s best-kept secret spots for a romantic holiday,” declares Kieren Perkins. “Stunning.”

We’re inclined to agree; Spicers Peak Lodge is a very special place. A lodge of just 10 suites and two lodges, perched on the peak of a mountain and surrounded by World Heritage-listed bushland, its setting is a true highlight, while the food at the on-site restaurant has been awarded multiple hats.

“Room 10 is my favourite,” Perkins says. “It has the most beautiful fireplace, and there’s a loveseat by the window where you can pile up a bunch of cushions with a book in one hand and look out over the grass, down to the valley.”

Another excellent recommendation from Mr Perkins – but then, it’s hard to go wrong here (especially when every room, save for two, has a fireplace). It’s one for special occasions.
