Mudgee food and wine fair will be held at Balmoral Beach during October

Shifting Scene

The third-largest grape-growing region of NSW for the last 150 years is making a visit to Sydney.

Food is one of life’s simple pleasures that everyone should be able to enjoy — and it just becomes an added bonus when you’re devouring it with some fine Australian wine along Sydney Harbour’s gorgeous Balmoral Beach.

The 2008 Mudgee Food and Wine Fair will be held on Balmoral Beach on Saturday August 10, so come along and join in with the fun. And yes, you read right, Mudgee Food and Wine Fair is being held at Balmoral Beach — not at Mudgee. Although, you can take a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Sydney up to Mudgee to enjoy that glass of cabernet sauvignon or shiraz first-hand from major cellars including the Lowe Family and Huntington Estate.

But if you don’t have a whole weekend to spare and would still love to enjoy the wine and food from there, then let them come to you. This year’s fair will be held in celebration of the Mudgee Region to encourage Sydneysiders to continue supporting the local wine industry.

The Mudgee Fine Food Group will also have plenty of food stalls set-up to allow people to taste, try and buy award-winning honey, olive oil, pickles, jams, cheese, tapenades and wine jellies from the Mudgee region. There will also be a tantalising gourmet BBQ being cooked up on the day.

Just because it’s a food and wine festival, which sounds much like an adults-only event, there will also be entertainment for the youngsters too including a kid’s animal farm.

While you’re at the fair, enter yourself into some winning competition where great prizes including a ‘Mudgee Wine Weekend Getaway’ valued at $750 will be given away.

Held from 10a.m. to 5p.m., entry is free but there will be a $15 ticket package that you can buy which will get you five tasting tickets and a signature glass. There will be free shuttle services operation from Balmoral Beach to Military and Spit Roads via Ragland Street and Awabe Street regularly throughout the day.
